Ways Sandy could jolt energy markets

MarketWatch -- As Hurricane Sandy barrels toward the East Coast, people naturally wonder whether the power line to their home will ride out the storm.

That’s energy worry No. 1, and the reason hurricanes always spark a run on batteries.

But there are other ways Sandy can seriously mess with energy markets. Here are a few worth keeping an eye on.
Heating oil

The East Coast is the world’s biggest heating oil market. This is the time of year homeowners top up their storage tanks to make sure they’re ready for the cold weather. Much of the heating oil headed to markets north of New York is delivered by barges.

Those barges aren't going to sea if there’s a hurricane lurking offshore. Loading and unloading operations are also typically suspended during storms for fear of dockside spills.

Spy: well, in the north, Old Man Winter has already started to frostbite and nip on ears and fingertips.
In fact, Central Europe had already a snow storm and regionally about 10F weather.

.
Once again, we need more Refineries in America so that Tornadoes, Fires, and Hurricanes can be covered by other parts of the country.

The actual problem is the EPA, Eco-Terrorists, and Dumbocrats as not a single new major refinery has been built since 1979.

Well I filled up the car yesterday, and won't be doing any traveling for at least 2 weeks, so I am good there. Just parked the van with 1/2 tank, and have no plans for it till January, so that one won't need gas for a while, so I guess I am all set, no matter what happens to prices.

Gulf coast refineries shut down for hurricanes. East coast refineries will shut down for a threat of a hurricane.

By late October the first round of heating oil deliveries should all read y have been made to homes and distributors should have already received deliveries by barge, this storm should just delay an additional round of deliveries by a few days

If distributors had any sense of human decency, they would hold the line on prices in a disaster situation instead of making a killing...

ALERT!!! Light rain and freezing conditions are predicted for Fargo, ND. Global oil and gas prices are expected to skyrocket due to this weather report! That's how ridiculous that speculators have knee jerk reactions. Ob the other side of the coin, the value of the U.S. dollar and the price of oil shoots sky high. There's no rhyme or reason for the manner to the manner of betting that speculators may act!

Anything for an excuse to jack up prices. Sandy has no direct affect other than media that incites price hikes.

Just more excuses to raise the prices. Anything will work. Oh no it rained in the gulf, prices going up. Oh no it is 5 deg colder this winter so prices going up. Blah blah blah. Tired of them trying to justify it. Just tell it like it is "hey we can get more money for oil/gas and you have to pay it, so hey we are going to".
